If you are not aware of a baseball camp going on in Calistoga, it’s easy to forget why.
For starters, there has not been one in the last few years. Secondly, with the opening of the Community Pool, trying out the SPLASH camps has been foremost on many people’s minds.
Well, there is in fact a baseball camp hosted by Calistoga High head coach Rob King. The camp runs every Tuesday from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Calistoga High throughout the month of July. The camp is open to anyone from ages 9-18.
“The purpose is to come out and have fun and learn the game at a less structured environment,” King said. “It’s about teaching techniques, but it’s on a different level as far as how you get your point across.”
The program is run through the Calistoga Recreation Department and the cost is $5 per session, with equipment provided.
When former Wildcats coach Jack McMahon conducted the camp, it was over the course of a week.
“It was maybe mid-morning, whereas this is something ongoing versus having baseball just for five days straight and not picking up a ball again,” King said.
The SPLASH camp continues to generate buzz marked by the opening of the new community swimming pool.
The SPLASH camp is open for youth ages 6-12, Monday through Friday until July 30 from 1:15 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The cost is $40 for one week and is a half-day camp that gives kids of all swimming levels an opportunity to spend the week at the pool.
Staff members will be there to emphasize water safety as well as supervise structured and free pool play.
