Name that date: A parade prize winner
Monday, July 06, 2009

Since the Fourth of July Parade is Saturday we thought we should re-run this first-prize winner for patriotic floats, way back in Calistoga’s early days.

The Uncle Sam War Dogs float was created by L. Nancy and William Brown. The banner appealed to the patriotic consciousness of those who had not purchased liberty bonds to help support the war. The photograph is undated, but judging by the boy in the background dressed in 18th century period attire it’s likely a Fourth of July parade.

Can you Name That Date when this rugged float won first prize? Here a hint — it was well before World War II ended.

Participating in Name That Date is easy. Simply call 942-4035 and leave your name, phone number and guess on the voice mail if we can’t pick up the phone, or e-mail the editor with Name That Date in the subject line at jwaters@napanews.com. Send a note via regular mail to 1458 Lincoln Ave., Calistoga, CA 94515, or drop a note in the mail box at the office behind the historic Calistoga Depot. Good luck.
