County offers drug discounts

Napa County officials announced Tuesday they will start a program today to offer prescription drug discounts for all county residents.

The county will offer a free discount card that offers a 22 percent savings off the cost of commonly-prescribed drugs and will be accepted by an estimated 16 pharmacies in the county, including CVS Drug, Wal-Mart, Raley’s, Rite Aid, Safeway and Family Drug, among others.

The cards may be used regardless of age, income or existing health coverage — but the savings apply to medications that are not covered by insurance.

The program is sponsored by the National Association of Counties, of which Napa County is a member.

Residents can acquire the discount card at area libraries, city halls and several pharmacies. For a complete list, go to www.co.napa.ca.us or call 299-2168.
