Bocce league training session Sunday

Napa Valley residents who would like to play bocce in the St. Helena Bocce League are invited to attend a “get acquainted” and training session at the Crane Park bocce courts on Sunday, July 5 at 5 p.m.

Those who are not presently on a team and would like to join one for the fall season are encouraged to attend.  

The deadline for Fall League registration is July 20.

It is anticipated that openings will be available for new teams to join the Fall League or for singles to join existing teams.

Bocce play will include evening games Monday through Friday as well as the Friday Morning Farmers Market League.

Those interested in joining the evening league will select the one night of the week that is best for them.

For those have not played before or have not played for a long time, there will be an opportunity to learn the game at the July 5 session.

The group will play several games at that time.

Karl Mosher and Larry Bradley will lead the training/sign-up session.

Applications for the fall season will also be available for existing teams at the courts during the week of June 29, may be downloaded from the City of St. Helena’s Web site or picked up at City Hall.

Fall bocce registration underway

The St. Helena Recreation Department is now accepting team registrations for the 2009 fall leagues.  

Registration packets may be picked up at City Hall, 1480 Main St., between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or at the bocce shed at Crane Park. 

Forms are also available by downloading from the city’s Web site at www.ci.st-helena.ca.us.

The Fall Evening League will start on Monday, Aug. 3.

The Fall Farmers Market League will start Friday, July 31.

Storm Baseball Academy begins Monday

The Napa Valley College Storm Baseball Academy will be held for players 7 to 12 years of age. There will two sessions, July 6-9 and July 20-23.

Both sessions will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Instructors include the Storm coaching staff led by head coach Bob Freschi and pitching coach Warren Brusstar, a former Major League pitcher.

Summer basketball camps at NVC start July 13

Napa Valley College is offering two summer basketball camps for sixth-, seventh-, eighth- and ninth-graders.

The boys camp will be held on July 13-16. The girls camp will be held on July 27-30.

The camps go from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The registration fee is $80 for the week. Campers must have a waiver filled out by a parent.

Youth wrestling for middle schoolers

The Napa Slammers Wrestling Club is open to middle-school students who would like to learn the fundamentals of folk style and freestyle wrestling.

The club is sponsored by the Napa Sheriffs Activities League. There is no cost to participate.

Practices are from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays in the Napa High School Wrestling Room. For information, call Ignacio Franco at 494-1177.
