D’Adamo: What have you enjoyed most about competing in high school athletics?
Laughlin: Probably traveling with the girls. We had a great team this year. We had a lot of fun.
D’Adamo: Have you competed in any other sports besides soccer?
Laughlin: This year just soccer, but I have played softball and tennis. I also did cheerleading at
St. Helena. This is my first year playing soccer.
D’Adamo: What intrigued you about trying soccer this year?
Laughlin: It’s what my friends do. I thought it would be fun.
D’Adamo: Do you have a favorite among the sports you have played?
Laughlin: Probably softball.
D’Adamo: What do you enjoy most about softball?
Laughlin: Being around my friends.
D’Adamo: How much of a challenge can it be to balance school, sports and a social life?
Laughlin: It’s difficult, but I have always been dedicated to school.
D’Adamo: Do you find that sports can be an extension of your social life?
Laughlin: Yes.
D’Adamo: Do you find that you get better grades during the season or after?
Laughlin: All year my grades are good, but during the season they are better because I have to make sure grades are not an issue in order to stay on the team.
D’Adamo: So it becomes a motivator not to have grades ruin the season?
Laughlin: Definitely.
D’Adamo: To this point in your life, who has been the most influential person?
Laughlin: Probably my parents and friends.
D’Adamo: How so?
Laughlin: My parents support me in what I do and my friends always encourage me.
D’Adamo: What is your favorite class at Calistoga High?
Laughlin: AP art.
D’Adamo: What do you enjoy most about it?
Laughlin: Creating art. I like to paint.
D’Adamo: What are your best or more recent drawings?
Laughlin: Some things for Halloween.
D’Adamo: Do you enjoy having a vision and then seeing the finished product later?
Laughlin: I usually don’t know what I’m going to paint. I usually just paint whatever I’m going to paint.
D’Adamo: What are your plans after high school?
Laughlin: I know I want to go to a four-year university. I want to stay in Northern California. It depends on where I get in, but maybe Davis or Cal Poly.
D’Adamo: What might you choose as a major?
Laughlin: Probably advertising or something with graphic design.
D’Adamo: What intrigues you about going that direction?
Laughlin: I think it’s an interesting field with a lot of job opportunities.
D’Adamo: If money were no object, what would be your dream vacation spot?
Laughlin: Probably Venice.
D’Adamo: What intrigues you about going there?
Laughlin: I have never been to Italy. I think it’s really pretty.
D’Adamo: Name a historical figure, dead or alive, in or out of sports, you would like to meet.
Laughlin: Probably Barry Bonds.
D’Adamo: What would intrigue you about meeting him?
Laughlin: I think all of the records that he has set are great and I like the Giants.
