Dano D. Mattiuzzi passed away Jan. 26, 2010, in Santa Rosa. Devoted husband of 57 years to Shirley Mattiuzzi of Santa Rosa. Beloved father of Debra Eynon of Rohnert Park, Mark Mattiuzzi of Glenhaven, and Kirk Mattiuzzi (Debbie) of Newark. Cherished grandfather of Michael and Daniel Eynon. Adored son of the late Maria and Luigi Mattiuzzi. Loving brother of the late Ted Mattiuzzi. Dear uncle of Dennis Mattiuzzi (Cyndi) and Kamala McNeely (Doug). Survived by one grand-niece and four grand-nephews.
Age 79 years.
A 40-year member and past president of the NSGW, Santa Rosa Parlor #28, and former captain of the St. Helena Volunteer Fire Department. Member of the Bennett Valley Grange. Served on the board of directors of the Bennett Valley Fire Department.
Dano was born, reared and educated in St. Helena, graduating from St. Helena High School in 1947. As a young man, he worked as a masonry contractor with his father, working mostly at wineries and building pools in St. Helena. In 1960, he opened Dano’s Liquors in Santa Rosa at Montgomery Village, where it is still in operation today. Later, Dano worked at Ciampi Distributing until finally retiring in 1980. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, camping, bocce ball, ping pong and playing cards with his grandsons.
Friends and family are invited to attend the funeral service Feb. 6, at 11 a.m., at Lafferty & Smith Colonial Chapel, 4321 Sonoma Highway, Santa Rosa, 539-2921. Memorial contributions may be made to the NSGW Charitable Foundation, 414 Mason St., Ste. 300, San Francisco, CA 94102 or charity of choice. Private entombment: Holy Cross Cemetery, St. Helena.
