Dear Editor, Editor: Within the national debate about whether and when to get screened for cancer here’s something we know: Colon cancer is one of only two cancers that can actually be prevented through screening. Or if detected early, the five-year survival rate is approximately 90 percent.

Dear Editor, Spring is right around the corner in Calistoga. The Mud, Music & Mustard was a great success, the clocks “Spring Forward” this weekend, the Giants and A’s are in camp, the Sharks are playoff-bound, the 49’ers have a new quarterback, the Raiders are . . . well, they’re the Raiders and both Cal and Stanford are headed for March Madness. The vines are waking up and rebirth is in the air!

Dear Editor, Recently I had the pleasure of working with the children’s ceramics class at the Calistoga Arts Center. Sharie Renault and her student artists agreed to create artwork in connection with the Rebuilding Calistoga project. I explained to the children that the helpers are volunteers who will not be paid.
